Coffee with Danny

What generally happens over coffee?

Saville, Dodgen & Company wants to get reacquainted with you. Our goal is for you to be fully informed of our services, our people and their areas of expertise. Look for upcoming “coffee breaks” as we reintroduce ourselves to you. You never know what you will find out…

GET TO KNOW DANIEL: Danny began his career in public accounting in 1997. He was admitted as a partner at Saville in 2009. Danny enjoys using his technical expertise to help clients navigate the myriad of tax and business decisions they are faced with. He understands that every client is unique, and how important it is to gather all of the facts available in order to assist clients with their specific set of circumstances. Whether that involves helping small companies with budgeting, reporting, and cash flow analysis or giving tax advice on choice of entity, retirement plans, or owner’s compensation. See more details about his experience and qualifications here on his bio.

Now, see below to find out why his favorite quote is “Failing to prepare is like preparing to fail” by John Wooden….

Although Danny doesn’t talk much about hobbies that he spends time in, he does share the things he enjoys with his family and friends, “I love playing tennis whenever I’m not in the office.  I play in a couple competitive leagues, and my youngest daughter plays so it’s been fun hitting with her now that she is older. He also enjoys golf, but with three teenage daughters, he says, “I have to juggle my time very carefully.”

“I love to grill and watch movies, so our favorite things to do on weekends are usually going out to dinner and a movie, or have a lot of folks over while we grill and hang out.  Especially in summer by the pool,” he adds.

daniels-bookHe says he loved reading the Game of Thrones series…and enjoys watching it on HBO, admitting, “I enjoy good science fiction series, but don’t have a lot of time to read these days.”

Advice and Insight

When asked what advice he would share “over coffee” with his clients, Danny reminds us that being informed is very important. “There’s a reason my favorite quote is ‘Failing to prepare is like preparing to fail’ by John Wooden.”

While he enjoys finding ways to help reduce someone’s taxes, he finds that “even when there are no “magic bullets” that can be used to help a client reduce their tax bill the simple fact of them knowing their tax situation can be a big stress relief.”

Danny recalls some of the best advice he received from someone when he was just beginning his career was to “let criticism roll off your back like water does off a duck.”

He explains further, “As you grow up in the business, you are always critiqued.  As a staff/senior/manager you are getting criticism on every mistake you make on every return or project.  As a manager/partner working with clients you are critiqued by clients depending on how you service their needs.  If you decide to dwell on the criticism, it will weigh you down.  Listen to what they say, learn from it, and ALWAYS strive to improve.  It is something that has served me well throughout my entire career.”

Can’t remember exactly what year we started with SD but Danny had small children. Oops now he has 3 teens! Wow where did the time go!
Always trust that our needs are met by the BEST expertise in the business. Danny and the SD team of professionals have our best interest at heart, and for that we are grateful.
    Thank you,
    Barbara & Kent Anderson
