TODAY: KURTIS SMITH
GET TO KNOW KURTIS: Kurtis joined the Saville team in 2000 and manages audit and consulting engagements for clients operating in a diverse array of industries. See more details about his experience and qualifications here on his bio.
Here are a few things you would find out about Kurtis over a cup of coffee…
When visiting with clients, Kurtis enjoys learning what is happening with them. He says, “Our clients cover a lot of territory and industries/purposes. I am always eager to understand how their businesses and organizations are doing, what the key challenges are and what the future holds.” He also conveys his amazement about how people are very creative and driven. “People have said that the human mind is meant for creativity and solving problems, and not designed for being a database repository,” he says, “I believe this and constantly see this played out as people work hard, solve problems, and find innovation.”
Kurtis’s time outside of work is primarily related to spending time with family and friends, in addition to mountain biking “to keep me in shape…sort of,” he jokes. All jokes aside, with respect to hobbies and activities, he believes that “anything fun has to involve action,” pointing out that restaurants and living rooms are not destination points, he says, “fun stuff involves active stuff.” He told us that skiing and mountain biking seem to have struck a proper balance between safety and fun for himself.
He and his family are involved at Lakepointe, a Church in Rockwall. “There are good people in a lot of places, but I am thankful for our friends at Lakepointe. There is an awesome group of people there that strive for excellence in our spiritual and personal lives. He says, “This year has been a wonderful year as I have been able to merge family activities with Church and hobby activities.”
Advice and Insight
With respect to business, Kurtis says, “Being an expert is nearly impossible. Having a team of knowledgeable people in multiple areas is possible.”
Kurtis relates, “My advice to clients (and others) is to always surround yourself with trusted people, in all areas of life.” He believes entrepreneurs and people in leadership sometimes do not have trusted people that challenge them and provide valued feedback or partner with them. Following up, he says, “Groups typically make progress…. individuals generally do not.”
